Tale as Old as Time Beauty and the Beast Afternoon Tea

by - May 08, 2017

The 'Tale as old as time' afternoon tea was created by The Kensington Hotel in London to celebrate the release of the live action Beauty and the Beast film. The rooms the afternoon tea is held in are really beautiful, with a modern yet inviting and cosy interior.

It started off with the first course of savouries, which included a bite size venison pie, beef ragu and saffron arancini and a cheese souffle. These were small but very tasty

The afternoon tea itself came out after this, with the three tiers. You actually got a whole stand to yourself which I thought was good value for money. The staff were really friendly and helpful - once they had placed your stands down they went through in detail all of the reasons behind each choice included in afternoon tea..

The bottom tier contained a brioche with the choice of chocolate spread or apricot preserve. Although I was initially slightly disappointed about the lack of scones they were really nice change and the reason behind having them was to tie in the french baguette seeing as the film is set in France.

The middle tier contained sandwiches which was more like your traditional afternoon tea. These included: Potted Argyle smoked salmon and creme fraiche, Roast Devon chicken with cranberry, Cucumber and cream cheese and Egg Mayonnaise and cress.

And finally the desserts.. which if I'm completely honest is the thing I look forward to the most in an afternoon tea! Mrs Potts was brought round to pour cream into the vanilla jelly.. it had rose petals in it which linked to the wilting rose from the film.

The other desserts included a Chocolate cogsworth tart, Belle's dress with marzipan, Snowball coconut & chocolate macaron which linked to the snowball fight Belle and Beast had. And lastly my personal favourite 'Try the grey stuff' white chocolate mousse. Inspired by line from Lumiere in the film 'Try the grey stuff it's delicious, don't believe me ask the dishes!' I'd left this til last as it was served in the chip cup so I was already feeling very full by this point! However I managed to finish it, it was lovely and light.

There were Lumiere and Cogsworth figures dotted around the room which I borrowed from the fireplace to take this photograph!

I consider myself one of the lucky ones to be able to attend this afternoon tea. My husband saw it on Facebook and we managed to get tickets before it went viral on social media. I'm so glad we did as I do love an afternoon tea and I am a big Disney fan. The whole thing was so well thought out, from the details within the menu and the quality of the food. I would even go so far to say it's been one of my favourite afternoon teas to date!
